Lacking in Updates
by Kel on Jan.17, 2012, under General
It finally damn happened.
Back in August one of my ex-roomies and I hit the road in The Woobaru. We drove, and drove, and drove. We drove until our asses were sore, as is want to happen in a 2007 Impreza. (Nice seats, but not great.) We made a couple of stops along the way in addition to the food+gas stops. First was Colorado to see Ari and Koji, then a second one in Illinois to see Sentinel.
All in all, not a bad drive. Long as hell though. Wyoming is still boring as shit, though I’m glad we detoured through Colorado because it meant not taking I-80/I-90 the whole way across, which I’ve already done twice. This time we went through Missouri and Kansas instead of Nebraska and Iowa (Which, unfortunately, means we didn’t get to see The World’s Largest Truckstop, but I guess I’ll survive.)
Eventually (about 3 days I think) we landed in Connecticut. The room wasn’t ready for me, since somehow the left hand forgot to tell the right hand someone new was moving in that weekend from across the fucking country (a foreshadowing of things to come, but we won’t be getting in to that), so we had to wait for that, then I unloaded most of my stuff from my car, dropped Taur off at a hotel and made my way in to Massachusetts to see Mike. After a slight delay trying to figure out how to circumvent the turnpike as I didn’t have cash on me, I made it to Worcester. I met his dog before I met him and almost had a confused as to which one was which (Just kidding, Jack, you’re way cuter.) We spent that week together as his folks were away in Maine doing their vacation hoo-hah. We painted the town red. There was much Vodka consumed. I think we even went to TGI-Fridays twice. How’s that for some first dates? Fuckin’ tasty, that’s how.
Meanwhile, back in Connecticut
After The Week of Much MerrimentTM was over, I had to head back to CT and begin setting up my room. The room was alright, at least it was my own room. I had to Red Green a goddamn door handle and lock on myself, but other than that it was great (I am both handsome AND handy). Oh, and the yellow-jackets. And spiders. Yea, apparently the heater was broken and that made a giant hole in the wall which went outside. Also, there’s a beehive integrated in to the walls of the house. You can tell, because the plaster and drywall are squishy from honey run off in the summer. They’d all go chill in my room when it was unpleasant outside for whatever reason. I found a spider the size of a fifty-cent coin wandering around near my feet one day and almost shit myself. After he worked his way back outside a bee replaced him and the Evil Fucking Cat helped me get rid of it.
After two months of that hole, making only the bare weekly amount from my editing/writing gig, not eating much, getting no nibbles on my resume and job apps and what not, I got in touch with my ex, Chris, up in Vermont. After some light negotiations he agreed to let me move in with him and within a couple of weeks I got a job. (And I kept it for more than 4 days and didn’t try to occupy anything. Like a bauss.)
And that’s it, at least so far. I’m working at BestBuy now selling cameras and MP3 players and what not. Looking to get my own place, as Chris hates that I’m dating and refuses to let Mike visit, and Mike’s parents aren’t so keen on the faggot thing so he can’t have me over there. Makes the 4 hour drive hard to swing. Hopefully, sometime soon, I’ll see him again. He still has to give me my Christmas present. :P
In other news…
Mike finally got his new Computer. It’s apparently the Bee’s Knees, but I haven’t seen it yet. I helped him build it via AIM and Text Message. I’m that awesome. Now, he’s saving for his car and then who knows. Maybe we’ll move in together somehow. I would like to move closer to him, first, though. C’est la vie.
I traded in my California plates for Vermont ones. Not sure when they’ll be here. My Super Intelligent Credit Union back home hasn’t relinquished the title to Vermont yet, so my plates are in limbo. Not sure what the hold up is, but that credit union is turning out to be more and more a bunch of fucking idiots. I may have to shake the tubes a bit to get the title unstuck. And in case you’re worried: The Woobaru will remain The Woobaru; it was available here in VT too.
Now if I could just find a good time for everyone to get my brakes done. I bought the pads already but apparently there may be some issue mating new pads to old rotors or something, so I’m not sure how to proceed. I also need snow tires something fierce, but I’m not going to have the money for that at all this winter. Hopefully the cities keep their shit together with the salt and plowing.
Chris also gave me back my other, first, domain! ShiftyEyed.net is mine once again. I’m waiting for it to transfer away from my current shitty Registrar over to Gandi.net, then I’ll be setting it up with a GoogleApps domain so I can play with all that shit. I want to see what happens if I integrate my CR-48 in to it. Supposedly it’s neat. We’ll see.
I’m running Mint linux in a Virtual Machine. Spotify is cool. Mike is neat. I want to finish learning Python.
I think that’s it.
Soon.
by Kel on Jul.11, 2011, under General
So, after… too long… It looks like I’m finally goddamn moving. Hooray!
Sometime in the last week of July or first week of August I’ll be driving to New England with one of my ex-roomies. Probably one ‘Day of Rest’ (Driver’s Shabbat), then I’ll be taking Taur to an airport (Logan? Maybe one in Connecticut… I don’t know D: ) and driving out to Worcester for happy fun time.
Should be fun >_> I have to start taking trips to Manteca again now to get everything ready. Do not want. I’ve been having such a lovely time in San Jose away from… all that.

In other news, I finally got my old domain back from He Who Shall Remain Chubby Unnamed, and am not sure what to do with it now that I have this domain. The old one is ShiftyEyed.net, which just points here for now. Should I buy hosting? Le sigh.
Another New Project — Python Style
by Kel on Nov.30, 2010, under General
So, I’m trying to learn Python, FINALLY. My friend Wyvern only recommended it to me a couple years ago, and I believe Steinbeck echoed his sentiments… So here I am, finally with a project in mind (I think that’s what I was waiting for.).
Just telling me to learn something hardly ever works, I have to have something in mind to use it for. I’m currently running a neat little bot on my IRC network called “SupyBot”, it’s completely written in Python and uses python for plugins. Voila. It’s also not a very well known bot so there aren’t that many plugins for it, meaning some of the features I want, I have to come up with on my own.
And so, this is my project idea. I think it sounds simple in theory, but we’ll see once I actually dive in. So far I’ve made my terminal holler in pain at me using concatenation and multipliers. Not so far in ;P
- Allow users to set and store their birthday in any room the bot is in
@date --set mar 15 1987- Recall their birthday and return a countdown
@date [nick][nick]'s birthday in MM Months, DD Days, HH Hours and MM Minutes! [nick] will be [subtracted age] on [birthday]!- Check everyday @ 00:00:00 for birthdays matching [current date] and announce them in the rooms they were set.
- If there’s multiple per room, they will each be displayed on their own line. Fuck spamming, it’s a celebration!
Congratulations and a Happy Birthday to [nick#]! Today they are turning [subtracted age]!
It’s a little daunting, but I’m kind of excited to figure this out =)

The Lord of the Rings ‘Eagle Plothole’ explained!
by Kel on Sep.29, 2010, under General
I’ve heard a lot of people talk about this, and I always wondered about it. Well, thanks to all of these people, I no longer have to wonder! Yay!
Here’s the collated story from their posts:
Why couldn't those giant eagles have just picked up Frodo with the ring and carried him to Mordor, you ask?
Simple, really. Remember the Nazgul? They could fly too. Sauron was scouring the skies as well as the seas and land. The only reason Frodo made it on foot was because of all the other distractions being laid by the wars and intentionally by his confederates.
Also, the eagles were servants of Manwe, of the Valar. Long before the War of the Ring, the Valar decided against getting involved with the wars of Middle Earth. However, sending an eagle after the ring was destroyed would not contradict that pact as it would be After-the-Fact, plus at that point Sauron and the Nazgul were powerless/destroyed, so the skies were safe.
Also, contrary to the way the movie tells the story, the eagles didn't carry Frodo and Sam all the way to Rivendell or Minis Tirith, they only took them as far as Ithilien and they went from there the rest of the way on horseback.
And there you have it.

My Dreams Are Weird ಠ_ಠ
by Kel on Aug.26, 2010, under General
Really, really weird dreams. Really…. Quite weird.
Extremely so, actually :|
Honestly, not quite “Inception” weird, but pretty weird.
The first one was a couple of weeks ago, and probably had something to do with either drinking, or my use of antihistamines as a sleep-aide (which is a recommended use, before anyone barks at me.), and the second one was today, and… probably due to the antihistamines again, and possibly the large fire and helicopters earlier in the morning.
This one took place in Amsterdam. For some reason, Google had purchased Amsterdam, and was converting it in to the largest, live-in corporate complex known to man. They were running fiber-optic cable all over the place, and had knocked down large portions of the city. The main building looked something like a costco, but in Googleplex (Mountain View campus) colors. They agreed to leave historic landmarks up, but were retrofitting them for their “Everything connected” plan for the city.
There was also a very large apartment complex in a Peach/Beige color that said “GLife Beta” on the main facade. This was visible from my friend Nilicule‘s apartment. (which was a historic building and thus left mostly untouched.)
The reason for my being there was to be a sort of cultural ambassador to the people of Amsterdam and the Netherlands in general. The thing that was strange about that bit was that I was the only person who knew how to speak Dutch. Not even Nilicule did, and he grew up there. Part of Google moving in had been to “standardize” the spoken language, and through attrition, the Dutch language was dieing. When I learned how to speak it, I don’t know.
There were very surreal portions of the city where the “everything connected” experiments had failed, and those districts fell to ruin. The buildings were abandoned, creaking and flickering as my tour-guide, Nilicule, and I walked through. Due to my having a “high level” Google employee ID, some of the buildings that still had power would attempt to greet me as I walked past; turning on lights, opening shades and unlocking doors (for non residences). The strangest part to me was that fiberoptic cable, discarded by the work crews, were strewn about and gave everything a very “covered in ivy” feel. It was almost as though the fiber was growing up the buildings.
That was pretty much the whole of that dream. It’s been awhile so I may not remember some of the details. But it was still interesting and I think I retold it well… This morning’s dream was… differently strange.
It appeared to take place at a cross section of the house I grew up in, and the Williams Estate. The house was hosting some sort of party and I had two friends sitting in my car, waiting for me because I was bringing them something and they were going to borrow my car and come back. The car was parked racer-style (pointing the street in the drive-way).
I was kneeling down beside the driver’s door doing something, when a man, who intended to hijack the car, came up and shot and killed both of my friends, with what appeared to be a Civil War era revolver-type pistol. I leaned in and grabbed my 4-C Cell maglite, then went around to where he was, trying to pull the person out of the passenger seat. I gave him a crack across the face, then began bludgeoning him repeatedly about the back of the head.
I recall vividly the feeling of his skull beginning to crack, like a hard-boiled egg, under the maglite everytime I hit him again. I did this until he was apparently dead.
I ran inside, wondering what to do and asking people for help. I ran back outside to find my phone when I noticed a News Helicopter in the sky… During th dream, there was nothing weird about that, but when I woke up I realized that it was a flying News Van from KCBS-2… And it was flourescent purple… Anyhow.
I was worried about why it would be there, and retreated back in to the house to ask for help again when an old coworker from VTA came to the door, apparently to attend the party. I just looked at him and asked “Do you want to dispose of a body?” and he got this huge smile on his face and said “Yes!” (He was an ex-cop from Gilroy, so… I don’t know. Older, too. 50s or 60s, I think). We went back outside to start moving the body to his car when I realized mine had been stolen. It had been sitting in the driveway running, and someone came up and stole my car and the two dead bodies that were in it.
I got really pissed that my car had been stolen and snapped awake very suddenly.
I really need to stop taking Anti-Histamines to sleep.

The monsters have taken over the city, but somehow… we’re still alive.
by UE on Jul.24, 2010, under General
So, geeky intro quote aside, no I have not forgotten about the blog nor has Kel. We’ve just been really busy doing our own thing lately. Kel got a job and a new phone which is fantastic.
I personally have been working my ass off trying to get up the money for school because my parents informed me about a month and a half ago that I had to pay for it all myself, now it’s not TOO bad because my school pretty much only costs around 2000 a semester + book fees, but money’s still tight. I’ve been working for the past five days and have three more to go, I have a bit of a break workwise next week but I’m still trying to pick up more hours. I’ve also been selling some anime on ebay which luckily is helping. I’m gonna be poor for the next few months, I had to cancel a bunch of pre-orders/services I’ve been using such as WoW, Netflix, Xbox Live, Starcraft 2 and BlazBlue:Continuum Shift. But I’ll get all those back eventually. I’ve also decided that I’m gonna post a little tidbit about progress in games I’m playing on this blog whenever I make a blog post at the time I’m doing something fun like that. So look forward to it. Well, that’s all I have to say for now, hooray for revival from zombification! Wait.. did I just hear something.
Oh shit, I’m gonna get out of here, see ya folks!

I… am an ARTIST!
by Kel on Apr.02, 2010, under General
So… Just incase my previous attempt didn’t make it obvious enough, thought I’d share with you that I am, in fact, some kind of artist.
I drew some stupid BS for Mike and commented that I have the artistic abilities of a common goat. He, of course, objected. (Because he’s foolish or likes me or something.)
So, I drew:

to prove the point and really… drive it home.
He, again, protested and said that it was fine.
Just as a note; I’m using a Wacom Bamboo (drawing tablet thingie) and OpenCanvas.
Michael is using his laptop’s touch-pad and MSPaint and drew this:

I think that pretty much proves my point <3
I can’t draw.
Not that I ever expected a drawing tablet to like.. make me great or anything, but shit.
- K
PS: Mike also drew that little graphic in the top right corner of all the pages of he and I. MSPaint again. =P
Yes, we’re insane.
